Connecting Kids and Wildlife

THE SAN DIEGO ZOO

MY ROLE
I owned Experience Design for this project.

THE CHALLENGE

The San Diego Zoo asked VML to create a kids’ site that would connect kids with the animals even when they couldn’t visit the zoo.

Engaging visitors is critical to The San Diego Zoo’s mission of saving animals around the world. By making The San Diego Zoo and it’s programs accessible, the zoo hopes to build a network of supporters to help them with their mission.

THE CHALLENGE

We first dug into the audience and what content was available.

We reorganized details about the animals into typical categories to make it easier for kids to find.

We also created an area for games and introduced an art component called “Your Doodles” that allowed kids to draw their favorite animals, save, and share their artwork. Then we wrapped the experience up with hundreds of hours of custom, animated, illustrations.
